Llandaff NSPCC packs Parish Hall for coffee morning

by Joni Ayn Alexander on November 16, 2010

More than 50 coffee drinkers — nearly all women — sipped their hot drinks in Llandaff’s Parish Hall to raise money for the NSPCC on Tuesday morning.

“The same people have been coming for years,” Llandaff’s NSPCC committee secretary Jan Joynson said. “It’s fantastic.”

The £2 entrance fee gave the women — and one man, Llandaff Society chairman Geoffrey Barton-Greenwood — a hot cuppa. On the perimeter of the hall, bring-and-buy stalls sold everything from scarves and handbags, to jewelry and cakes.

Towards the end of the morning event, a string of raffle winners claimed boxes of chocolates and biscuits.

Jenny Barton-Greenwood then closed the morning by asking attendees to take away a collection triangle to raise funds for the NSPCC and Childline: “Please take a box to place in a place where you think it will collect lots of money.”

NSPCC community fundraising manager Jo Leonard commended the Llandaff committee. Out of the 10-13 committees in Cardiff, Llandaff is consistent with their fundraising, she said.

Llandaff NSPCC’s next event is the Christmas Supper at the Fairwater Conservative Club on 8 December. The event is black tie dress, and tickets cost £18 each. To purchase a ticket, contact Jan Joynson on 02920 568 074.
